On the second day of the Fairfield, IL Paintout, we gathered at the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts. I was greeted by an array of sculptures scattered throughout the grounds. I was drawn to a sculpture with a steel frame, filled with large stones created by Thomas Sternal. It looked like it had been there ages. I think initially what drew me in was the gradient. At the top, the stones were dark, weathered and mossy. The ones in the middle appeared pristine, and the ones on the bottom were covered in dust and dirt from the wind whipping dust onto and thw rain splattering mud up covering the stones. As I began to paint, I appreciated the sharp man made cuts on the stones paired with the organic shapes where they had not been but by hand.

It was a gorgeous day (74 degrees, I think). I listened to music on my earbuds and was so happy, I dances as I painted. I must have been a sight. Lol
