It was to be a very hot day, so I woke up before sunrise during the Hermann Plein Air Event, and headed to my favorite spot, Hermann Farm. As I drove through the gates, the abundance of life on the farm greeted me in the form of a pack of deer, but they quickly dissapeared into the woods. As I drove, I looked for inspiration with a slower gait. As I climbed over a hill, I saw it. The sun was now rising, and in front of it was a beautiful white mule who seemed to be glowing. I quickly set up my easel and began to try to capture the magic I was witnessing. I thought it might be impossible, that it may not look real because it surely didn't look ordinary. But somehow, I created a painting I was very happy with. Jane the mule, in all of her glory on that quiet, hot morning. It went on to win an Honorable Mention award at the Plein Air Competition.
The hand painted original is on an 11"x14" stretched linen canvas. I do not keep many of my paintings, but I will be keeping this one.
